READY FOR KINDERGARTEN

Welcome to Pender Public Schools! We look forward to partnering with you in fostering your child’s education. A child’s school success begins long before they actually begin school, and continues outside the classroom. Parents often wonder how to best prepare their child for school. Please check out the resources on this page and reach out to us if you have questions.

IS YOUR CHILD READY?

We have prepared a list of skills in a check-off format to help you determine how “ready” your child is.Please remember that every child is different. In Kindergarten, we have students beginning school at ages 5 and 6 years old. There is a lot of developmental change between these ages. We encourage parents not to compare their children with others as developmental differences can be significant.

NEBRASKA LAW

Current law provides that a child may enter kindergarten if they have reached age five on or before July 31st of the current year. A child may also be admitted if the child reaches age five between August 1st and February 1st and evidence exists that

  • The child attended kindergarten elsewhere in the current school year;

  • The family anticipates relocation to a jurisdiction that will allow admission in the current year; or

  • The child has demonstrated through assessment procedures approved by the school board that they are able to meet the expectations within the kindergarten program.
