This message is to make you aware that a junior high aged student at Pender Public Schools tested positive for COVID-19. This is the first student or staff member that has tested positive during the 2020-2021 school year. Communication is an important tool to keep everyone as safe as possible, which is why this message is being sent. Confidentiality laws prohibit the school from disclosing information regarding the identity of the student. Due to the safety precautions in place at PPS, very few, if any, students will be classified as “close contacts.” District personnel are, however, working to determine if there are any close contacts who would need to subsequently quarantine. Parents of students deemed to be close contacts will be notified as soon as possible. Like was already stated, it is anticipated that very few, if any, students will be identified as a close contact. It is important to know that safety precautions are in place at the school to keep everyone in the building as safe as possible. The safety precautions have been in place since the start of the school year, and they will continue to be in place until it is safe for them to no longer be implemented. Other than being aware of the situation and being diligent with the safety measures in place at the school, there are no actions required of students and parents. This message is for communication purposes and is aimed at helping keep everyone as safe as possible moving forward. Thank you for your understanding and have a great day!

The attached document also provides a diagram of how close contacts will be handled in the classroom setting.) * Indoor events may now allow 75% of facility capacity. This is up from 50%. * Outdoor events may now allow 100% of facility capacity. This is up from 75%.

All staff will be wearing cloth face coverings while on site. We are equipped with Non-Contact Infrared Thermometers and will be taking temperatures every single morning as staff arrives at the office. Any staff member showing signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19 will be directed immediately to stay home. If signs and symptoms emerge while at work, the staff member will be immediately sent home. We will be practicing Social Distancing to the highest extent possible. In general, while taking pictures a 6-foot distance is normal to our photography setup. Cleaning wipes will be implemented and used on applicable equipment in the office and once stations are set up in the field prior to the first staff/student arriving and between classes/groups. We will be carrying and using hand sanitizer frequently. We wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Avoiding the touching of our eyes, nose, and mouth. We also wanted to let you know the procedure we are going to practice as the staff/students are wearing masks. We DO NOT want staff/students removing their masks and handing them to someone else to hold or placing them anywhere to sit and lay while their picture is being taken. The staff/student will remove the mask once seated and hold in their lap. The social distancing procedures set by the school will be followed by our photographers at each station for the lining up of staff/student/class who are waiting to have their picture taken. Your outstanding district actors: Nike Ritschel, Carson Miller, Rosalia Paredes, Zachery Randall, Madalyn Meyer, and Lucas Timm! One judge would have given us the best ensemble award if that was a thing. Today we fought hard and left it all on the stage. Although today did not turn out how we thought it would, this was a season of growth, and I am proud of how far we have come since our first performance. In the judges words, “it’s like a whole different show.” Our crew deserves a special shout out - without you we wouldn’t have a set to perform on, lights, fog, or sound! We also say goodbye to some awesome seniors: William Athey, Madalyn Meyer, and Larry McManigal. Congratulations on a great show and wonderful season.

Good afternoon! This is Jason Dolliver, the Superintendent of Pender Public Schools. The weather forecast for tomorrow and Wednesday could make travel very difficult and dangerous. As of now, we are projected to get between 6 and 9 inches of snow and up to 40 mile per hour winds. Snow is slated to begin around the noon hour. Time will tell what actually happens. I intend to keep a very close eye on the situation as this weather event unfolds in an effort to make sure the best decision possible can be made for the safety of Pender students and staff. The timing of this weather event will make decision making challenging. I will do my best! The intent of this message is to inform you of the weather situation headed our way. It is also intended to prepare families for what may need to happen in the middle of the day tomorrow. If and when it begins to snow, it likely won’t stop for several hours. This may make it necessary to dismiss school early. I would like to limit the amount of time between the decision to close school early and when school is actually closed. Limiting that time frame will allow school to be in session for as long as possible. If the weather does indeed dictate closing school early, it would be great to be able to dismiss no more than 45 minutes later. A shorter amount of time would be even better. My request is for families to prepare for a situation in which school is dismissed early tomorrow. Your cooperation with this request is greatly appreciated. Thanks and have a great day!
