This message is to make you aware that a junior high aged student at Pender Public Schools tested positive for COVID-19. This is the first student or staff member that has tested positive during the 2020-2021 school year. Communication is an important tool to keep everyone as safe as possible, which is why this message is being sent. Confidentiality laws prohibit the school from disclosing information regarding the identity of the student.
Due to the safety precautions in place at PPS, very few, if any, students will be classified as “close contacts.” District personnel are, however, working to determine if there are any close contacts who would need to subsequently quarantine. Parents of students deemed to be close contacts will be notified as soon as possible. Like was already stated, it is anticipated that very few, if any, students will be identified as a close contact.
It is important to know that safety precautions are in place at the school to keep everyone in the building as safe as possible. The safety precautions have been in place since the start of the school year, and they will continue to be in place until it is safe for them to no longer be implemented. Other than being aware of the situation and being diligent with the safety measures in place at the school, there are no actions required of students and parents. This message is for communication purposes and is aimed at helping keep everyone as safe as possible moving forward.
Thank you for your understanding and have a great day!

Masks will be worn in the bleachers and at the concession stand & restroom. C team begins at 5:30, then JV and Varsity.

Changes to the PPS Return to School Plan
* A face shield is no longer an acceptable facial covering. Face shields will be used in certain scenarios but use is to be limited as much as possible.
* Students deemed to be a close contact of a person who has COVID-19 due to participation in an activity on an outdoor field or in a gymnasium are allowed to self monitor rather than quarantine. (The attached document further explains this. The attached document also provides a diagram of how close contacts will be handled in the classroom setting.)
* Indoor events may now allow 75% of facility capacity. This is up from 50%.
* Outdoor events may now allow 100% of facility capacity. This is up from 75%.

Picture day is coming soon! The company that we use, Digital Solutions would like students and parents to know their procedures and practices for upcoming school pictures on October 5 & 6.
All staff will be wearing cloth face coverings while on site.
We are equipped with Non-Contact Infrared Thermometers and will be taking temperatures every single morning as staff arrives at the office. Any staff member showing signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19 will be directed immediately to stay home. If signs and symptoms emerge while at work, the staff member will be immediately sent home.
We will be practicing Social Distancing to the highest extent possible. In general, while taking pictures a 6-foot distance is normal to our photography setup.
Cleaning wipes will be implemented and used on applicable equipment in the office and once stations are set up in the field prior to the first staff/student arriving and between classes/groups.
We will be carrying and using hand sanitizer frequently.
We wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
Avoiding the touching of our eyes, nose, and mouth.
We also wanted to let you know the procedure we are going to practice as the staff/students are wearing masks. We DO NOT want staff/students removing their masks and handing them to someone else to hold or placing them anywhere to sit and lay while their picture is being taken. The staff/student will remove the mask once seated and hold in their lap.
The social distancing procedures set by the school will be followed by our photographers at each station for the lining up of staff/student/class who are waiting to have their picture taken. If there are any Special or Specific Practices in place for this, please let us know prior to the first staff/student/class arriving and we will abide by them accordingly.

The volleyball games in Humphrey on Tuesday, September 28th, will be limited to two tickets per player. You must present the ticket at the gate and then pay. Conference passes are accepted.
