DRAGONS TOO MUCH FOR KNIGHTS

Pender Out-hits Homer To Stay Perfect

On September 21, the Pender football team made the trek up to Homer for their mid-season battle against the Knights. The Dragons were too tough to handle for the Knights and stayed a perfect 4-0 with a 28-6 win.

Leading the offense in rushing was Matt S., who had 17 carries for 109 yards. Connor H. and Joey G. were also productive running the ball, with Joey G. scoring on one of his runs. Through the air, quarterback Joey G. completed 10 of 17 passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Leading the receivers against the Knights was Jared J. with two catches for 62 yards and one touchdown. Grant F. also scored one touchdown through the air.

On the defensive side, the Dragons tackling leader was once again the big middle linebacker Brant W., who had 12 solos and three assisted. Coming in behind Brant W. were Robert Dunn with nine solos and one assist and Joey G. with seven solos and four assisted. Leading the take away department was Matt S. with one fumble recovery and two interceptions, one led to a touchdown, the first defensive score of the season for the Dragons. Robert D. also had one fumble recovery.

On special teams, turned-punter Matt S. had four punts for 130 yards. Kicking off for Pender was Daniel K., who put five kicks together for 217 yards. Returning kicks for the Dragons was Connor H. with two returns for 50 yards.

Joey G. looks to tack on the extra point.

The Dragons' next opponent is the Laurel-Concord Bears. The Bears bring in an impressive team that is also 4-0 and ranked 7th in the state according to the Omaha World Herald (3rd in the Huskerland Prep Magazine). The OWH ranks the game in the top five must-see games of all classes in the state. The Dragons are looking for all the town's support at this week's home game!
