Street Named In Memory of Sgt. Joshua Ford
by Daniel Kent
On September the 16th, the memory of Sgt. Joshua Ford was honored with the addition of Sgt Josh Ford Avenue to the existing Slaughter Avenue.
Nearly 140 bikers from the Nebraska Patriot Guard Rider's met on the corner of Slaughter Avenue and Whitney Street along with Linda and Lonnie Ford and other Pender residents for the dedication ceremony, which unveiled the sign.
Sgt. Ford was a member of the 189th Transportation Company of Wayne. He died in July 2006 when a roadside bomb detonated near his vehicle on a mission in Iraq. Ben Marksmeier, a graduate of Wisner-Pilger, was also in the vehicle and was a special guest at the ceremony.
