IT'S GO TIME!

AIR ASSAULT BURNS BLUEJAYS

Dragons Get Long-Awaited Win Against WPCC

by Daniel Kent

Twenty-two years. Pender hasn't beaten WPCC for 22 years. Well, that streak is no more with the Dragons' 18-13 victory over the Bluejays on September 14 to stay at a perfect 3-0.

Leading the Pender offense in rushing last week was quarterback Joey Guenther with 15 carries for 43 yards and one touchdown. Also running the ball was Connor Heise, who racked up 37 yards on 14 carries and also ran for one touchdown. But it was the passing game that was the most impressive part of the offense last week. Gun-slinger Joey G. completed 13-24 passes for 249 yards with one touchdown and one interception. His main-man this week was once again Grant Fillipi, who had four catches for 123 yards. Tight end Jared Johnson also put up impressive numbers, pulling in three catches for 78 yards and one touchdown. Overall, the Dragons put up 353 yards of total offense.

Jared J. was also a ferocious defender, recording eight solos and one assisted and one sack. Leading the team in tackles for loss was Blake Kai with two of his seven tackles being in the backfield. Leaders of the take-aways against WPCC were Grant F., Connor H., and Brant Peters, all recording one interception, and Brant W. and Michael Malmberg both recovering one fumble.
